Greetings from the Director
- Director, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre
- KOGA Nobuyuki
The Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre was opened in October 1990 by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government with the aim of promoting the arts and culture of music, drama, and dance, etc., as well as promoting international exchange. Since then, we have welcomed thousands of visitors through our doors as we have sought to make our theatre one where they can experience and become more familiar with arts and culture.
In April of this year, we will welcome OKADA Toshiki as the new Artistic Director of the Performing Arts Division and YAMADA Kazuki as the new Artistic Director of the Music Division, and they will take up the task of introducing outstanding music and performing arts productions in Japan and overseas while further enhancing TMT's capabilities in presenting performances in those respective fields. In addition to promoting new initiatives, such as collaborations between music and theatre, etc., we will also put effort into developing approachable programs such as pipe organ concerts, street performances, and theatre tours. Furthermore, we will also proactively implement educational outreach and human resource development projects to support the world of art, and we will strive to create an environment where even more people can enjoy art and culture.
There is a wide variety of restaurants and stores in our theatre, and even visitors who aren't coming to see a performance can feel the hustle and bustle of our theatre. In addition, we will strengthen accessibility and create an environment where everyone can enjoy performing arts with peace of mind.
As a focal point for presenting music and performing arts in the capital city of Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre will continue to create and present outstanding arts and culture for audiences in both Japan and overseas. We will also further contribute to the revitalization of local communities in partnership with Toshima Ward, universities, companies, and related organizations, under the aim of being an open theatre that anyone can visit and easily enjoy.
We look forward to welcoming even more visitors to the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, and all of our staff hope that your visit will be an absolutely unforgettable experience.
