Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre One Day Open Event

Opening day to celebrate the reopening of the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre!

We will be having mini concerts and pipe organ tours in the Concert Hall, and there will be programs such as experiencing being on stage, and speaking and moving your body, etc., in the Playhouse and Theater East.
Also, with our theatre tour you can visit our four halls, you can see what the stages look at behind the curtain, areas which audience members can't usually go into, and you can enjoy every corner of our theatre for a whole day!

"Let's get on the Concert Hall stage"

"Pipe Organ - Mini Concert"

You can have an extravagant time where you can enjoy the timbre of the pipe organ that the TMT is very proud of and a musical performance by the hall's organist.

"GEIGEKI Orchestra Academy for Wind (GOA) - Mini Concert"

Enjoy the brilliant music of a brass ensemble made up of GOA Academy students.
  • Performance:Brass decet of the GOA.

"Let's play Steinway!"

Experience becoming a pianist by playing a Steinway piano, and getting your picture taken it in the Concert Hall!

  • How to participate: We will distribute numbered tickets at the Concert Hall lobby (5F) from 11:30 on the day of the celebration. This will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

  • Number of participants: Up to 4 people per group. 13 groups in total

"SaLaD Music Festival - SaLaD PR Concert"

Members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra will convey the charms of the SaLaD Music Festival that is taking place from September 14th (Sunday) to 15th (Monday (national holiday))!

  • Performance: String quartet made up of members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra

  • 15:30~16:00

  • Please do not take photos or make audio or video recordings.
  • A hearing loop (magnetic loop) is available for some audience seats in this performance.

"Pipe Organ Tour"

Our pipe organ is normally out of bounds, but this tour will give you the chance to see it up close under the guidance of a tour guide who will give an explanation about it.
A model of the pipe organ is also on display in the lobby.

  • Gathering point: 16:15 at the Concert Hall lobby (5F)

  • How to participate: We will distribute numbered tickets at the Concert Hall lobby (5F) from 14:00 to 15:00 on the day of the celebration. This will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

  • Number of participants: 20 people

"Let's get on the Playhouse stage"

Try shouting on stage with the members of TMT's Dojo!

  • You may enter and leave as you please.

"Meet TMT Staff and See the Playhouse"

TMT's technical stage staff will give a short explanation about the Playhouse, a hall dedicated to plays and dance, and they will also answer questions from the audience.

  • In this program there is a “Roger” hearing aid system that can be rented to audience members with hearing impairments. (On a first-come-first-served basis)

"Let's play together at Theatre East"

Get your body moving at Theater East together with members of TMT's Dojo!

  • You may enter and leave as you please.

”Special Experience Photo Spot”

You can have a very special photo of yourself taken by a professional photographer on a stage that has been set up with lighting

  • ①12:00~12:50/②14:00~14:50/③15:00~15:50/④16:00~16:50
    (takes 50 minutes).

  • How to participate: Apply in advance. This will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications can be made from 10:00 on July 9th (Wednesday).

  • Number of participants: Five groups per session (Up to 5 people per group). Twenty groups in total.

"Sponsored Performance Poster Exhibition - Public Display of Signed Posters"

This will be a special exhibition of signed posters including those of performers, conductors and directors from the performances held at TMT after its renovation and reopening in 2012!

"Gather Around! Experience Handicrafts!"

Try out making a clown mask or a yarn ball monster!

  • Limited to 30 participants at a time. There may be a need to wait if many people wish to participate. We ask for your understanding in advance.

"Opening Fanfare"

Celebrate the reopening of TMT with a wonderful fanfare! This will be given by the Brass Ensemble of the GEIGEKI Orchestra Academy for Wind (GOA)

  • Performance:Brass decet of the GOA.

"Let's try juggling!"

Visitors will be able to experience juggling at this space. Get some tips from staff and try out the challenge of various juggling techniques!

"See a street performance!"

Six groups of street performers, including pantomime artists and performers on stilts, will be adding to the excitement of our reopening day!

  • Performance: STILTANGO (Performance on stilts)/idio2 (Comedy)/Seseragi (Performance on stilts)/Barbara Murata (Pantomime)/Shiva (Walking act)/Kuutenkidou (Juggling)

  • The venue will change if it rains.

"Food Stalls and Experience Space at Plaza in Front of TMT"

There will be food stalls and experience booths that will make our reopening day even more exciting in the plaza in front of TMT!

"Theatre Tour (Special Reopening Tour)"

A special tour through the four halls of the theatre! Walk through the theatre together with a tour guide and see for yourself the different features of our halls.

  • Morning session 11:30~12:40/Afternoon ssession 13:45~14:55

  • How to participate: Numbered tickets will be distributed at the Lower Lobby (B1F) from 10:45 for the morning session and from 13:00 for the afternoon session. This will be on a first-come-first-served basis (one ticket per person only).

  • Number of participants: 60 per session

  • According to participation

    • The tour around our theatre takes about one hour. This tour will include the use of stairs, so please wear shoes without heels, such as sneakers, etc., and clothes that are easy to move in.

    • We do not have a baggage storage service during this tour.

    • There is a minimum age limit of 9-10 years old (fourth grader age). (Elementary school students must be accompanied by a guardian.)

  • In this program there is a “Roger” hearing aid system that can be rented to audience members with hearing impairments. (On a first-come-first-served basis)

"Stamp Rally (TMT Photo De Trip)"

Explore our theatre while relying on cover photos from our theatre magazine “BUZZ”. Find the locations of where each photo was taken and collect digital stamps!
Visitors who collect all of the stamps will get a prize on a first-come, first-served basis!

  • Last entry at 16:30
  • Excluding some programs, it is fine to take photos inside our theatre, but please make sure not to take photos that include other nearby guests.

  • Programs are subject to change due to unavoidable circumstances.

  • Please be sure to check for the latest information on our theatre’s website before attending.

  • We have a space for baby strollers, a diaper changing space and a nursing space.

  • Some programs have a “roger” hearing aid system that can be rented to audience members with hearing impairments. (On a first-come-first-served basis)
