Profile

Teatrul Național “Radu Stanca” Sibiu

Teatrul Național “Radu Stanca” Sibiu is a theater with history built in 1788. After Constantin Chiriac became the artistic director in 2000, the playhouse was recognized as a national theater in 2004 . The theater has about 50 actors and performs more than 10 new productions a year. As the backbone of the Sibiu International Theater Festival, it plays a center role in the festival. The festival is said to be one of the big three theatrical festivals in Europe with Edinburgh in the U.K. and Avignon in France. From early on, Japanese theater companies and theater people have participated, and interns have been widely accepted. Late Kanzaburo Nakamura, Kazumi Kushida, Hideki Noda, and others have received the “Sibiu walk of fame” award for their contributions to the festival.
